February 10 Happy Valentine's Day Finally, some Valentine seasonal commercial that is not cheesy. And more importantly, can be appreciated by singles too.
Talking about YouTube - Cupid February 08
January 31 Too Many Social NetworksYeah yeah I get it, 2008 was a year of Online Social Network. But there are just way too many! It's getting harder and harder to keep up with all of them, as well as all of your friends from different networks. Facebook, Myspace and such, are supposed to make our lives easier with keeping in touch with friends. But no, if you have pictures to share, you have to go through Facebook, MSNSpace, 开心网,校内网 to reach all the audience. Each of the network takes at least a half hour to upload and tag people. Thank god I don't have Myspace!
The New Year resolution of the social networks should be creating a platform that connects with all your networks: You only need to upload pictures and write blogs on this platform, and it will automatically appear on all your networks. Although Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft have been trying to gather everything under one roof within their networks, it doesn't really make any sense because no one would just use one network. Imagine cell phone companies, if T-Mobile can only call T-Mobile users, people would have to buy at least three phones to stay in touch with families and friends. On the other hand, Instant Messaging has already reached the point of hosting all vendors in one place, thanks very much to Meebo, Trillian, and Digsby.
Well, for minority groups like us having friends all around the globe, we will not only need a social network platform, but also a global one! This could be extremely hard, thus I'm not expecting it to happen within the next year, and just thought I'd leave my complaints here only for reference...
Anyway, this is why I haven't updated my msnspace for so long. Have been distracted by evil capitalism Facebook. I pledge returning here, very soon.
Traverse City
Sleeping Bear Dunes....
。。 June 21 08 Trip to ChinaAll the folks are still young. All the foods are still outrageously delicious. All the girls are still skinny.
FOOD:
Hot pot is never going away. This year the trend seems to be different themes of hot pot: loach, toufu, rabit head, fish head, chicken, frog, duck, you name it. My favorite was Qingmei Loach Restaurant. Of course the loach was good, so was everything else.
Spicy Lobster is hands down the best food in Beijing. It will lumb your lips, grease your fingers, spot on your shirt, but you still can't resist it.
![]() KARAOKE:
The interior design of a karaoke house has to be luxurious, or you are out of business. The minute I walked into the building, 6 people yelled "Good evening! Welcome to XXX!" at me. That made my heart skip a beat, and I had goose bumps afterwards. The waiting area is huge, with lots of comfortable sofa, and live piano performance! After the long winding crystal stairs, and winding hall ways, I arrived at our room. It has three plazma screens, touch screen computer for picking songs and adjusting the sound system, a unique solo stage, and a 10 seats leather sofa, bathroom included in the room. The sound system is so good that even when you are shouting "I need to pee!" through the mic, it sounds sexy and rock n roll. No wonder people rock all the time. As a result, the drinks and plums that are good for your throat are sold at a rediculous price here.
![]() SHOPPING:
The branded clothes are rediculously expensive. I mean, they are easily over ¥1,000 for no reason. The most obnoxious are the Korean brands that do not have a ¥1000 style, do not have a ¥1000 quality, and do not have a ¥1000 recognizable brand name. I was pissed at the price, and went to a free market. "How much are they?" I pointed at a pair of lovely sandals with a big blue flower in the front. "¥285, it's made of crystal". "...but it's just plastic" I mumbled to myself. "How about ¥20?" I was happy with my reasonable offer for a pair of plastic shoes. All I got was total silence. She didn't even care to talk to me. So I left with anger: "That was rude!" After 30 mins, I was back in front of the store again. Those were indeed very cute. So I smiled at her like a sucker:"How much would be the lowest price?" She asked:"How much are you willing to pay?" I thought for 5 seconds:"¥30!" She sighed, and said:" There's nothing under ¥100 in my store!" That ended the conversation. That's when I realized, what a change in the past two years.
So I left Chengdu for Beijing with total disappointment. But I found the shopping heaven, the best place to shop in the world, Xiushui Street. It's known to the world as the heaven for fake designers' stuff. Well I am not peacockery enough to go after just the brand names. But they do have great style, with good price! Next time I go back, I will spend a whole day and have a big budget for Xiushui, instead of running around in 1 hour with limited cash like I did this time...biggest regret in my whole trip!
OLYMPICS:
The city is totally clean. No air pollution threat at all. The architectures are phenominal. The ads are everywhere. The people are passionate. The mascots are marketed properly. I loved it, and am proud of it. Wish Beijing have a successful Olympics.
![]() EARTHQUAKE:
The closer to the earthquake center, the sadder it is. Nature has the power to destroy everything, but man has the power to rebuild.
